A flat, empty backyard is easy to overlook. But when there's a slope or a problem corner to deal with, that's where most homeowners get stuck. That was the situation here - a sloped corner that needed to be tamed before any real landscaping could happen. The solution wasn't just functional. It turned into one of the best-looking parts of the yard.
We used large natural boulders to build up the corner and hold the grade in place. No poured concrete, no timber walls - just heavy stone set in a way that works with the land rather than fighting it. The boulders anchor the space and create a natural transition into the planting bed. It's the kind of detail that looks like it was always supposed to be there.
Once the structure was in place, we got to work on the planting design. We went with Oklahoma native pollinator plants - species that are built for this climate, don't need a lot of babying, and bring in bees, butterflies, and other beneficial insects. These plants will fill in over time and keep delivering color and life season after season. Low maintenance, high reward.
Along the inner edge of the bed, we laid a clean stone border that separates the mulched planting area from the lawn. It's a small detail, but it makes a big difference in how finished the whole space looks. Combined with the boulders on the slope side, the bed has structure from every angle. That's what good landscape design and installation looks like - it works from every point of view.
The before photos tell the whole story. An empty yard with patchy grass and nothing to look at. Now there's a real outdoor space with texture, color, structure, and purpose. And because we focused on native plants, it's going to keep getting better with very little effort from the homeowner.
